Ah, toilet paper — the unsung hero of our beautifully tiled little retreats. But here’s a question most people never think to ask: where’s the best place to keep it so it actually stays clean?
You might be surprised to learn that your TP can collect more than just dust if it’s stored in the wrong spot. Don’t believe it? Try this quick experiment: place a dark-colored bowl or tray on the top of your toilet tank and another on the floor beside it. Leave them there for a week or so, and you’ll notice a fine layer of dust. That’s what floats through the air every time you flush!
So let’s talk about where your toilet paper should — and shouldn’t — go.
Where Not to Store Your TP
Avoid placing your toilet paper:
On the back of the toilet tank
Directly on the floor
Near open trash bins or air vents
Each flush sends a burst of air (and, unfortunately, microscopic particles) into motion. Those invisible germs can easily settle on nearby surfaces — including your toilet paper.
The Best Spot for a Cleaner Roll
Keep your TP on a wall-mounted holder or freestanding stand that’s about 2–3 feet off the floor and away from the toilet itself. This helps minimize exposure to moisture and airborne particles while keeping it within easy reach.
Your restroom should be your palace of personal care — and a clean one at that. Small habits like this go a long way in maintaining a healthier, fresher bathroom environment.
Just a simple tip from Keeping It Clean — helping you make every corner of your home sparkle, right down to the roll of toilet paper.
